How we quantify risk and reward in new listings - and help you make smarter IPO decisions.
In today's fast-moving equity capital markets, the number of companies going public is rising - but not all IPOs are created equal. While some names soar on Day One and deliver long-term alpha, others stumble out of the gate and never recover. At IPO Prophet®, we believe that Institutional-grade IPO research shouldn't be reserved for insiders. That's why we developed the IPO Prophet® Rating System. - a quantitative and qualitative framework that analyzes and scores IPOs on a 1-10 scale based on five critical institutional factors.
Every IPO we cover is assigned a proprietary IPO Prophet® Rating, ranging from 1 (Strong Avoid) to 10 (Strong Bull). This score reflects our assessment of the deal’s institutional quality, scarcity dynamics, timing, fundamentals, and sentiment — all the factors that drive price action during and after the IPO process.
Our system evaluates each IPO across five weighted categories:
Category:
Deal Quality & Underwriters 25%
Float Dynamics & Scarcity 20%
Sector & Timing 20%
Financials & Growth Profile 20%
Sentiment & Pre-Open Signals 15%
What We Measure:
Who’s running the deal? Are top-tier banks involved? Does the syndicate have a strong IPO track record?
How much of the company is being sold? Are insiders locked up? Is there structural scarcity or dilution risk?
Is the sector in favor? Does the market window support IPO performance? How does macro sentiment affect this deal?
Revenue growth, gross margin, profitability, unit economics — do the numbers justify the valuation?
What are we hearing from institutional desks? How is the order book building? Are there anchor investors or buzz?
Each IPO is then scored from 1–10, with color-coded tag ratings based on our research.
Recommendation
Strong Bull — High-conviction deal
Bull — Favorable setup with good risk/reward
Constructive — Mixed signals, proceed with caution
Avoid — Structural or market-driven red flags
Strong Avoid — Likely under-performer or problematic deal
Tier Logic:
Tier 1 (8.4–10): Institutional-quality setups with strong underwriters, clear profitability or visibility, and sector timing advantage.
Tier 2 (7.5–8.3): Solid infrastructure or tech plays with strong elements, but some concern (valuation, losses, or sentiment).
Tier 3 (<7.5): Uncertain financials, regulatory headwinds, or crowded space—requires careful due diligence or skip entirely.
